Taking Applications for Clerk and Treasurer Positions

The Village of Barryton is currently taking applications for the Clerk and Treasurer positions. These positions are part-time at a salary of $6000.00 per year, paid Bi-Weekly.
A High School Diploma is required with some college course work in accounting or finance desired. Candidates must have open availability on Tuesdays Wednesdays, for office hours for the public. Additional days may be required to complete necessary duties.

Example of Duties:
 Will be available (on-call) on all Tuesdays 10:00a.m.-3:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., unless prior arrangements have been made AND approved by the President\Pro-Tempore
 Provide checks and balances for financial accountability by completing monthly bank reconciliations and deposit details
 Have basic understanding, of BS&A software that is used for budgetary purposes, sewer and garbage billing and collection; tax billing and collection; and check writing
 File all paperwork accordingly on a weekly basis.
 Assume duties of Clerk/Treasurer in his/her absence.
 Maintain thorough knowledge of the Rules of Public Meeting Conduct and the Open Meeting Act
 Maintain knowledge of the following: General Law Village Act, MML Handbook, official Village policies, laws, ordinances, record keeping procedures and access to public information
 Abide by the adopted Village of Barryton Ethics Policy
 Know all duties of Clerk/Treasurer in order to keep village business operational when and as needed. Specifically:
1) Collect claims; mark received and present to proper department head or Clerk/Treasurer
2) Authorized individual to collect mail, payments from the bank and collection box
3) Collect payments, write receipts to proper fund and forward to Clerk/Treasurer
4) Serve as clerk of the council, recording all proceedings, resolutions and ordinances. (MCL 64.5) Assists other boards, commissions, and committees as requested, preserving the official proceedings. Present communications at meetings, prepare minutes in accordance with rules of procedures and perform follow-up work. Prepare and process all office correspondences and agenda items. Publishes all legal notices as required by law.
