The impending sewer rate increase was discussed between council, members of the community and local business owners. Additional information was requested in regards to when the loan for the sewer will be paid in full and as to whether or not there were extra principal payments made in the past that would possibly mean the loan would be paid off sooner than 2032. Jen presented council and the pubic with copies of the debt service report and said that she will look into the possible extra principal payments that may have been made in the past.
There was a lot of dialogue in regards to Barryton Elementary and its survival in its existing location (which is what was voted on) or the possibility of it being moved to a different location and what this move could and would mean in regards to the sewer system and the sustainability of the edifice with the planned increased fee schedule. It was shared with those present that if the school were torn down and not rebuilt in the same location, the utility would lose approximately $21,000.00 a year in revenues and that this deficit would have to be made up for by everyone else that is hooked up to the system. In short it would be necessary to increase everyone’s bill by another $8.75 (approximately).
Stacy Dennis made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Evelyn Jones all ayes motion passes.
