Regular Meeting Minutes

President Daniel Cross called the Village Council to order at 6:00pm

Pledge to the flag was recited

Roll call: Michelle Kundrat, Kathryn Kerr-present, Michael Kundrat-present, Terah Eaton-present, Daniel Cross-present

Public comment: Renee Earle representing the Barryton Lilac Festival requested park rental for the festival. Event is set for June 5th – 7th.

Motion made by Kat to allow the festival to rent the park for $250/day plus a $500 deposit and to allow them to block of Rose Ave for the 5k. Second by Shelly. All yeses – motion passes

Greg Adams was present to give council an update on current county happenings.

A letter from Kaylicia and Tommy Gilleran was read. Kat made a motion to reverse the Gilleran REU’s back to 1 and credit their account with overage from last month. Second by Dan. Terah – yes, Shelly – no, Mike – no, Kat – yes, Dan – yes. Motion passes.

Kat made a motion to reverse Karen Russell’s REU’s back to 1. Second by Mike. All yeses, motion passes.

Kat made a motion to reduce Pit Stop REU from 4 to 3 REU’s. Second by Shelly. All yeses, motion passes.

Chief Morgan read the police report. The state has mandated that all police radio’s be encrypted by Oct. 2026. Fines will be enforced for non-compliance. Waiting on grant information for purchase. Tabled until July for purchase. We are waiting on word from Breckenridge regarding the closing of their police department and the availability of a 2016 Ford Taurus, fully equipped with approximately 87,000 miles that we may be able to acquire for $5,000 – $8,000. Following a department meeting, all Barryton PD officers are required to work 200 road hours per year, not including special events. Barryton PD will be hosting a Cones with Hero’s event on June 18th in the William’s Cafe’ parking lot as part of their community policing program.

Kat made a motion to allow Jake to purchase weed killer from Menards not to exceed $160. Second by Shelly. All yeses, motion passes

Shelly made a motion to accept the April 8th regular meeting and May 1st special meeting minutes. Second by Mike. All yeses, motion passes.

Motion made by Shellie to have the attorney draw up a maintenance agreement between the Village and the School district to share the cost of maintenance 50/50 for the proposed new pedestrian activated lights at the school crossing. Second by Kat. All yeses, motion passes.

Kat updated council on receiving final approval on the new village boundary limits from the Office of the Great Seal.

Permission was given to Kat to add the new Village of Barryton Fact Sheets to the website as part of getting the website fully ADA compliant.

Planting of the tree by Wyatt Eaton in Central Park is scheduled for May 29th from 10 am – noon. Public welcome and invited to attend.

Council requested that Melissa contact the attorney for an update on the eviction process.

Approval was given by council to apply for a TC Energy grant for the Parks Scopes project as well as updates to the Village website. Chief Morgan suggested connecting with the school to see if they would help with the improvements for Central Park. Kat will be contacting Michelle Newman.
